On 04/28/2010, the team of doctors of the Clinic for Orthopedy, Clinical Center of Banja Luka, led by Dr. Vladimir Papic, performed arthroscopic surgery reconstruction of the anterior crossed ligament knee, which is currently the most topical in orthopedic surgery in the world.

Operations in the world which are considered as a gold standard were done before, and now we started to do the latest arthroscopic surgery reconstruction of disjointed anterior crossed ligament knee. As it is known, the Department of Orthopedics has a long tradition in the treatment of sports injuries, and has long been known in the region precisely because of the large and successful series of operations of the anterior crossed ligament knee, which has been working already for 30 years, and the largest contribution to that gave Prof. Nebojsa Popovic. Through continuous investment and improvement of the Clinical Center in order to improve the quality of work in providing health services, we created the conditions for the Clinic for Orthopaedics to take a big step forward in the field of orthopedic surgery. We are in process of acquisition of the best equipment, which is necessary and which has strong participation in this type of surgery.

Now, we do this surgery completely arthroscopic, without opening the knee joint, which allow modern implants that are placed during surgery. Up to now, many active athletes were operated who have succeeded to return to sport after surgery, which tells us a lot about successfullness of this kind of surgery.

Since the Clinical Center has good conditions now, it is expected to be intense and rapid development of this branch of surgery, especially because there is an excellent and rejuvenated team motivated to follow the latest developments in the profession. We have great motivation of rejuvenated staff (currently we have four young, promising, motivated doctors in residency, who have shown great interest in this branch of surgery), good cooperation with relevant branches of medicine, such as anesthesia, and most importantly: we do have the confidence of patients.
Head of the Clinic, Dr. Papic devoted a big part of his previous work to this area, treatment of sports injury problems, where the mastered and published original research work in the field of Diagnosing rupture of the anterior crossed ligament knee.

About the clinic:
In the clinic are treated patients with diseases of the bone-joint system, and patients with the consequences of injury. As for the surgery of the Clinic, in the regular program are performed orthopedic surgeries, hip endoprosthesis, knee, arthroscopic and surgeries of reconstruction of anterior crossed ligament of the knee, the most complex operations of children’s orthopedics and corrective surgeries of inadequately restored bone joint system injuries, and surgeries of bone tumors. We would emphasize the very complex procedures, such as artificial joint revision surgery.

Aims and objectives:
The objective and main task is to restore the former leadership position of the Clinic with the purchase of sophisticated equipment and arthroscopic surgery to keep pace with achievements in the world, and, by the end of next year, to start working very complex arthroscopic shoulder surgeries, for which has already worked out a plan of education.The clinic seeks to improve its work and reduce the recovery time of patients. This is certainly an area in which Clinical Center of Banja Luka, Department of Orthopedics, wants to invest a lot in order to become a leader in orthopedic surgery. It also represents a significant segment of ultrasound diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of children’s hips, and in the candidacy for a title of educational center.
