Complex surgical procedure performed at the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma
The surgical team of the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma at the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska successfully performed a complex surgical procedure involving the removal of a tumour. The procedure addressed a large, advanced, almost inoperable soft-tissue malignant tumour of the right upper leg, located in close proximity to major blood vessels and nerves. Due to the tumour’s location, there was a significant risk of leg amputation. Thanks to the timely and highly professional intervention of the surgical team, amputation was avoided, the tumour was completely removed, and the patient is recovering well with continued therapy and medical follow-up. These tumours are increasingly prevalent, and patients often seek medical care at later stages of the disease, which further complicates treatment.

An extraordinary situation recently took place at our institution, where physicians conducted follow-up examinations of two patients who had received a kidney from the same donor in Minsk. The examinations confirmed that both patients are recovering in accordance with the planned clinical course. This represents a rare case in which one donor has saved two human lives.
