On 3rd June, 2010, in the Center for Breast, Clinical Center of Banja Luka, was done the first biopsy sentinel lymph node in a patient with breast cancer, using preoperative lymphoscintigraphy and intraoperative detection of sentinela mobile gamma sample.

According to the definition, the sentinel lymph node is the first node to receive apherent lymph drainage from malignant tumors. The benefit for our patients is that in a negative sentinel lymph node is omitted axillary dissection, and thus is eliminated and the risk of postoperative lymphedem of a hand.

This surgical procedure is done by the team consisting of:. Dr. Brano Topić, Dr. Aleksandar Guzijan, Dr. Davor Grahovac and instrument nurse Darija Marijanac, in collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Professor. Dr. Zvezdana Rajkovača and Dr. Jasenka Mijatovic.
