As part of the expansion of the Institute of Radiology, Clinical Center of Banja Luka, which is permanent and in accordance with the general restructuring of the Central medical block, and which is provided through Project Korea 3 through the Government of the Republic of Srpska and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of RS, has a modern information system , an integrated RIS / PACS of new generation (Radiology Information System / Picture Archiving and Communication System). It is a system for working with images, which purpose is to eliminate the use of making films and going over to digital data processing. This project will allow to complete a series of shots with modalities such as CT, magnetic, diascopy, ultrasound, switch to a system for archiving and communications, and after that all doctors who are in the CC-network and can browse pictures, give conciliar opinion, and even seek the opinion from their colleagues.
We have set up test system for training, which first passes the technical staff, and other medical personnel, and next week comes a new system to be installed. The plan is to implement an information system prior to first conduct training, and then to install devices.
Department of Radiology possessed even before, since 2006, the system of older generation, which was not integrated into the network of the Clinical Center, and which did not provide access to recordings in clinics – on computers. It is important to note that the Clinical Center of Banja Luka is the first institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina which has equipment of this kind, and that two years ago, only University Clinical Center Tuzla purchased an older generation of this equipment. Integrated RIS / PACS software system of new generation has many positive features, which will significantly improve the quality of work. The most important features are: • The large memory, which allows long-term storage of recordings, • large capacity, which can bear the burden of new equipment, which is to be installed, • 3D tools and fascinating images.
The software allows the processing and postprocessing (Analysis) images with the help of appropriate tools – zoom, filter, invert, three-dimensional reconstruction, and so on, all with the aim of precisely when viewing diagnostic images. Big support about providing the necessary infrastructure gave us the IT department of the Clinical Center. Here it is important to note that for the access to information, videos and 3D animations and video infrastructure is necessary to provide the departments, so they require all the videos and to patients themselves have a benefit.
