Support to the „Association of Patients with Stoma”

 University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre supported the “Association of Patients with Stoma”, who posted the setup of the colon in “Petar Kocic Park”, as activity with the goal to raise awareness on this health problem. Representatives of the Association reminded on difficulties of the patients with stoma, and called on the audience to pay attention on importance of preventive controls in order to prevent the diseases. Stoma is chirurgic opening on the stomach, known as “plastic bag on the stomach”, mostly caused by colon cancer, severe difficulties and inborn problems.

“Colon carcinoma is very huge problem, not only in BiH but also all over the world. That is the disease which could be treated and solved if it is timely discovered and if surgery is done timely. It is important to know that the process from beginning of problems to severe problems lasts 10 years, and that stage of disease has no symptoms at all. In this period, it is very important to do preventive medical diagnostics, in order to do the surgery on the patients. Disease prevention is very important and it depends from individuals i.e. from living style of the person, physical activities and problems with eventual other diseases. Besides that, it is important that the persons who have no medical problems take preventive test known as colonoscopy”, stated Doctor Zoran Aleksic, Specialist of General and Abdominal Chirurgic at University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre. 30 percent of deaths caused by cancer are marked with the factors of risk: increase of weight, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, low physical activities, tobacco consumption and alcohol consumption.
