184x124-..-images-images_news-otpad1By procurement and installation of the object for medical waste disposal, University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre solved three very important problems: disposal and storage of antitumor drugs, chemical and pharmaceutical waste in adequate way which is aligned with the law and to storage the samples for pathohistological analysis, from the Institute for Pathology. In each clinic which gets in touch with antitumor waste, there are adequate bags to deliver the waste materials. When they are filled to the level of 2/3, the bags are being transported to the places for non-harmful removal.

184x124-..-images-images_news-otpad3There is the employee which is directly in charge of transport of those materials to central warehouse, where the materials stay by delivery to competent company. This object is also used as warehouse for chemical and pharmaceutical waste materials of the University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre, by the moment when “GRIOS” d.o.o. Grude company takes over the materials. University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre has a contract with “GRIOS” d.o.o. Grude Company, on taking over and further disposal with antitumor waste materials, in the way defined by the law and aligned with ecological and environment protection conditions.The Project of preparing the space for disposal of waste materials and medical waste (except of infective waste) is done in accordance with the laws, regulations and ecological standards. For those purposes, donors provided the donations in amount of 80.000 BAM. The space for disposal of waste materials has one container with the volume of 5 cubic meters, one press container for waste materials with the volume of also 5 cubic meters, and two containers for the waste materials for recycling. By implementation of those activities, the savings in amount of over 50.000 BAM will be provided on annual level, only in costs of communal waste materials transport. (for transport of communal waste materials from the location of Paprikovac, the hospital has being allocating BAM 108 per month, during 2014).

After appointment of new management of the Hospital which recognized the problem of disposal with antitumor drugs, chemical and pharmaceutical waste, the Hospital provided the assets from donations for construction of the object which started with work. Money from donations was also used for purchase of two containers in the dimensions of 48 and 60 liters, with metal safety shutter for antitumor drug waste, by the moment when relevant company takes over the waste.

184x124-..-images-images_news-otpad2RS Fund for Environment Protection and Energetic Efficiency, with permission of RS Government, donated 30,000 BAM for the Hospital, for preparing the area for the treatment of infective waste materials. Old building which was not in use was rearranged for those purposes, for treatment of infective medical waste, in accordance with all WHO recommendations and legal norms. It is necessary to remind that 172 employees of the University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre passed the drill and got internationally recognized certificates to deal with those issues. In July 2014, the education of all the employed health workers has started, as well as education of assisting personnel, on disposal with medical waste materials. The drill lasts by 1 October 2014, and it will fulfill another legal obligation, ensuring safe management over waste materials for all employees of the Centre, protecting the environment and bringing more savings. Financial assets for solving the problem of management over waste materials were collected from donations, provided by the friends of the University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinical Centre. Donations for this project were provided by: “Integral” Laktasi, “Gradjevinarstvo”, “Pestan”, “Aragostainvest”, “Elios”, “Binis Beton”, “Prokontrol” and “Kis Produkt” companies. This problem was also recognized by NLB Bank, which donated 3,000 BAM, “Farma Swis” which donated 4,000 BAM and “Interpromet” which gave donation in amount of 6,000 BAM, by erasing the debt of the hospital towards this company, in case that the money will be used for the project of antitumor waste disposal.
