The Department for Intensive Care Medicine has been established at University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre on 1 September. This Department will provide treatment for the patients who are in life danger, and who are treated by conservative field of medicine. It will be support to all clinics and departments at University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre, at the same time supporting all healthcare institutions in RS which face the need to transfer their patients to Banja Luka Clinic Centre.
Close cooperation has been formed with prominent hospitals from the world, both in professional and in educative contexts, and that is part of the project of intensive care medicine strengthening. Equipment and introduced procedures are also in accordance with existing standards, providing high level of diagnosis quality and medical treatment. Good equipment gives the basis for full respirator and cardiovascular treatment of the patients. The Department for Intensive Care Medicine will be also coordinating the work of all intensive care ambulances in University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre, bringing higher level of services for the patients who are in life danger. It will be done in cooperation with the Clinics for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. The Unit of Intensive Care Medicine in the Hospital has been formed in 2008 in accordance with the standards and organization of European Association of Intensive Care Medicine. It was acting as independent unit by 2013, when it was connected with the Clinic for Anaesthesia. Current changes in organization were done in accordance with reconstruction of University Hospital of Banja Luka Clinic Centre, in order to satisfy newly created capacities and technological equipment standards, and to provide full services for this group of patients.
