199x109-__-images-images_news-edukacija14One of the most important segments of Phase III of the project of modernization of hospitals in BiH – as part of the reconstruction of the South Wing of the University Hospital of the Clinical Center of Banja Luka, is the education of our medical staff in Severance Hospital in Seoul, Korea, which starts on 25 September 2014.

Before our medical staff traveled for education, a meeting in the amphitheater building Maternite was organized. Prof. Dr. Mirko Stanetic, the acting Director General addressed at the meeting and wished our medical staff safe trip and to manage to represent our clinic in the best way.

He added that the creation of good communication with colleagues throughout the world, and the continuing education of our medical staff, University Hospital of the Clinical Center of Banja Luka is classified in the ranking of world health institutions. Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr Milan Latinović said on the occasion, that he was confident that our medical staff will present Republika Srpska and our health system in the best way, and the new acquired knowledge and experience to convey to their colleagues upon their return.

Education and training in Korea shall be covered four major areas of expertise:

• Ophthalmology,

• Gastroenterology,

• Nuclear medicine and

• Cardiology

As part of Ophthalmology education, our doctors and nurses will additionally educate and train regarding:

1.   Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

•   The spectral OCT (Heidelberg engineering, GmbH), Cirrus OCT (Zeiss), Optovue OCT

2.   Angiography and PASCAL laser

•   PASCAL (Topcon)

3.   Apparatus for vitrectomy

•   Constellation vision system (Alcon, USA), Accurus (Alcon, USA)

4.   Phacoemulsification

•   Infinity vision system (Alcon, USA), Whitestar Signature (AMO, USA)

5.   Laser refractive surgery equipment

•   Visix S4 IR (AMO, USA), Intralase 60 Hz (AMO, USA)

The main objectives of education and training are:

•   Introduction and practical training on the treatment of outpatients including retinal imaging and modalities of treatment for outpatients;

•   Introduction and practical training on ocular surgery, including cataract and retinal surgery and

•   Introduction and practical training on other types of ophthalmic surgery, including refractive surgery.
