16th World Congress of Psychiatry in Madrid

16th World Congress of Psychiatry organized by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) was held in Madrid in the period from 14th to 18th September 2014.  The motto of this year’s congress was “Focusing on Quality, Access and Humane Care“.

Every third year, the World Psychiatric Association organizes these types of congresses. They are the most visited psychiatric congresses in the world. The previous one was held in Buenos Aires in 2011 and it was attended by 14 000 participants. The number of participants in Madrid exceeded 15 000. The congress was held in the Congress Centre Juan Carlos and it was comprised of 56 different scientific sections with various psychiatric topics. On that occasion, the importance of joint activities among professionals was emphasized. Cognitions that a human is biopsychosocial being are confirmed. It is the best way of perceiving a human with the aim of providing as better care and as better approach to a patient as possible. The most eminent experts from all over the world including President of WPA Professor Pedro Ruiz emphasized the importance of an individual approach in the treatment of patients and availability of psychiatric services. With regard to the fact that WPA has 135 institutional members from different countries, it represents about 200 000 psychiatrists worldwide. Physicians from the Psychiatric Clinic Nera Zivlak-Radulović MD, PhD and Višnja Banjac MD participated in the congress and presented two research papers. The first paper was „ FREQUENCY   OF NEUROLOGIC DISEASE AS A RESULT OF ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE SYNDROM WITH   SEQUENCES ON MENTAL PLAN” and the second one was “DIAGNOSTIC DILEMMA: ORGANIC OR PSYCHIATRIC”. Also, physicians from the Psychiatric Clinic Mirjana Mišković MD MSc and Diana Zoric MD attended the congress. The fact that the Psychiatric Clinic of the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka follows global trends in expert and scientific trainings was confirmed once again.
