There are no limits to taking care of patients. It was once again demonstrated by medical personnel of the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka with the support of the Helicopter Service of the Republic of Srpska and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska. A patient from Bihac with an acute myocardial infarction suffered a heart attack on Saturday, January 3rd. He was treated in Petrovac and Bihac. Afterwards, he was transported by a sanitary helicopter to our institution where he was immediately provided with medical assistance i.e. he underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. A patient with initials V. D. (born in 1953) is recovering well and will be discharged from hospital to be treated at home.

In fact, from October 2014 when a helicopter for medical transport of patients was promoted within activities of improvement in health care protection in the Republic of Srpska until today, numerous patients were managed in this way. Most of them were patients from hospitals in Zenica, Foca, Nevesinje and Doboj. They were polytraumatized patients, patients with myocardial infarction and patients with spine fractures.

This method of transportation of both patients and health care workers has significantly improved availability of health care protection with regard to providing the health care services to patients whose condition is urgent and in relation to transport of patients from one health care institution to another with the aim of providing an adequate health care protection.

This case is also an indicator that the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka manages patients not only from the Republic of Srpska but also patients from the region and provides the best health care protection to everybody who needs medical assistance.
