Physicians of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic successfully performed a complex surgical procedure on the left fist of the patient. In fact, the patient with initials Dj.S. (24) was referred by an orthopaedist from the General Hospital “Sveti Vracevi” Bijeljina to our institution due to necessity of performing a surgical treatment of the injury of the left fist which was caused by a corn picker. It was a complicated left fist injury which caused multiple fractures as well as dislocation of all wrist bones and dislocation of all fingers of the fist. Fist vascularisation was compromised to a significant extent and soft tissue was damaged. Due to nature of the injury, there was an indication for amputation of fist.

Patient underwent surgery immediately after admission, in the late evening. All fist structures were primarily reconstructed and no complications were experienced in the post-operative period. The patient’s general condition is good. The fist is vital, so he was discharged from the Clinic to be treated at home.

The complex surgical procedure was performed by: Natasa Zelincevic, MD, MSc, plastic and reconstructive surgery specialist, Srdjan Veselinovic, MD, resident in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Boris Pancic, MD, orthopaedic resident, Milan Pavkovic, MD, anaesthesiologist, Aleksandar Ilincic, anaesthetic technician and Stasa Fikovic, theatre nurse.
