Biopsija bubregaPhysicians of the Department of Nephrology of the Clinic of Internal Diseases performed two hundred kidney biopsies.

It is a very significant procedure in diagnostics of kidney diseases (glomerular diseases, tubulointerstitial diseases) as well as systemic diseases that attack kidneys.

After biopsy, a pathologist finalizes a histopathological finding on the basis of which a complete treatment of these patients is conducted in the Department of Nephrology.

In the earlier period, all patients who had indications for kidney biopsy were referred to medical centres in the Republic of Serbia, most frequently to Belgrade. The diagnostic procedure itself requires longer hospital stay. Its application in the Department of Nephrology of the UH CC BL provided more comfortable treatment to our patients and led to reduction of treatment costs.

It is important to mention that the first biopsy was performed on April 16th, 2007. Therefore, we can consider this date to be very significant for the development of diagnostics in nephrology of UH CC BL.

According to our information, six hundred biopsies have been performed in B&H so far (Tuzla, Mostar, Banja Luka). It means that one third of biopsies have been performed in the UH CC BL.

A medical team that performs this procedure is comprised of: Assistant Professor Milorad Grujicic, MD, PhD, nephrologist, Assistant Professor Branislav Gasic, MD, PhD, nephrologist, Goran Topic, MD, resident in nephrology, Aleksandra Salapura-Dugonjic, MD, PhD, pathologist and nurses: Veselinka Stjepanovic, Gordana Katalina and Pamela Naric.
