The aim of a friendly visit was education of physicians of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and all interested physicians, specialists and residents with regard to acquiring both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This is the third visit of Professor F. Joachim Meyer MD, PhD to the biggest health care institution in the Republic of Srpska. The first visit was in 2007. During this visit, he held lectures for physicians in the Amphitheatre of the UH Clinical Centre Banjaluka. The lectures were dedicated to treatment of the severe form of COPD in the intensive care units and treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. This was a unique opportunity for the physicians to be informed of his experiences regarding the treatment of these entities in the large health care systems.
Cooperation with Professor Meyer started in 2005 when young physicians underwent educational trainings on treatment of critically ill people. By using his huge knowledge and rich experience, we improve diagnostic and therapeutic protocols in the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka. Professor Meyer MD, PhD, is an official lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine in Banjaluka as a mentor for sub-specialisation in the field of intensive therapy. During his visit to the Medical Intensive Care Unit, he performed invasive methods of hemodynamic monitoring together with physicians of the UH CC BL and educated them on ultrasound diagnostics of critically ill patients.
