On April 7th, 2015, in the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka, Professor Bruno Barsic, MD, PhD, infectious diseases specialist and subspecialist in intensive care medicine held a lecture entitled “Intensive care medicine in infectology”.
Professor Bruno Barsic, MD, PhD is a specialist at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases „Dr Fran Mihaljevic” in Zagreb and Head of the Department of Infectology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University in Zagreb. The Clinic is a highly specialized public health institution in which medical, teaching and scientific activities are planned, organized and conducted. Also, Professor Barsic MD, PhD is Head of the Institute of Intensive Care Medicine and Neuroinfections in which people with central nervous system infections, people with meningitis, infective endocarditis and with severe forms of pneumonia complicated by ARDS are primarily treated. In the Institute of Intensive Care Medicine within the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Professor Barsic, MD, PhD also performs the majority of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation procedures (ECMO) in Croatia. Therefore, the Institute became “reference centre for extracorporeal oxygenation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia”. Besides the above mentioned, Professor Bruno Barsic MD, PhD is the first infectologist and intensivist who continues tradition in relation to development of intensive care medicine in infectology.
The lecture was attended by a large number of infectious disease specialists, intensive care medicine specialists and specialists in other fields of medicine, as well as a large number of residents.
Visit of Professor Barsic MD, PhD will certainly open the door to future cooperation between our two institutions on different levels.
