Theme of this year’s World Asthma Day is “You Can Control Your Asthma.” By launching these campaigns, we are focused on the significance of clean air, air that does not contain contaminants, tobacco smoke, hazardous gases and other toxins that can affect bronchial tubes. Quality of air affects 100% of population and it is especially important for people suffering from lung diseases and respiratory diseases. Respiratory diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide. The majority of respiratory diseases can be prevented or can be better controlled in the earlier stage i.e. if they are detected in a timely manner
. One of the most important lung function tests is spirometry.Bronchial asthma is a chronic disease that occurs often in patients and it’s congenital. Boro Kuzmic, MD said: “Everyone who has a family member that suffers from this disease should control all symptoms which occur“. According to his words, asthma can be also seasonal and it can occur in the season of high levels of pollen, mould and other allergens. Boro Kuzmic, MD said: “The cause of asthma can be smoke, as well as spending time in stuffy and humid rooms“. He has emphasized that methods for asthma diagnosis are much more precise nowadays and this fact is one of the main reasons why a number of identified cases of asthma is increased. Kuzmic said: „More attention is drawn to this issue. Therefore, today’s activity is one of those through which we want to bring the existing problem to the attention of our fellow citizens“.Spirometry is one of the methods for detection of disorder of lung function and accordingly for detection of breathing disorder. By performing a further analysis of those problems, we are able to diagnose asthma, bronchitis or some other disease. During this activity, approximately 100 citizens were examined.
