International nurses day is traditionally celebrated on May 12th each year, on the anniversary of birth of FlorenceNightingale who was a founder of modern nursing. She dedicated her life to healthconsciousness and importance of hygiene in health care system. This date was also marked in the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka which employs the largest number of nurses. It is of exceptional importance to mention that besides doctors of medicine, nurses are the leaders in health care system and the most important component in treatment and care of patients. Motto of this year’s International Nurses Day is: “Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective “. Nowadays, a nurse, besides professional knowledge and skills, has to me emotionally mature and stable person in order to be able to understand and to cope with human suffering, emergency cases, health problems and ethical dilemmas. University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka provided support to the Association of Nurses and Technicians of the Republic of Srpska that marked International Nurses Day by organizing the expert lectures in Staklenac in Park Petar Kocic from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All interested citizens had an opportunity to discuss the most common health problems in our population such as hypertension and diabetes. On that occasion, the Association of Nurses and Technicians of the Republic of Srpska organized costless testing to evaluate blood glucose levels as well as blood pressure measurement and measurement of body weight for citizens. Trade Union of Nurses and Technicians of the Republic of Srpska also marked the International Nurses Day. Gathering was held today at 1:00 p.m. in the Amphitheatre of the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka. On that occasion, ongoing problems as well as position of medical personnel in the health care system were discussed.
