On June 26th and 27th, 2015, in Banja Luka, the Association of Diabetologists and Endocrinologists of the Republic of Srpska organized Symposium with international participation entitled “Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.”
The Symposium has gained international character. Therefore, except lecturers from the Republic of Srpska, eminent experts from the Republic of Serbia also participated in the event.
The lecturers were esteemed academicians: Nebojsa M. Lalic and Dragan Micic, Professor Dragan Zdravkovic, MD, PhD, Professor Katarina Lalic, MD, PhD, Professor Aleksandra Jotic, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor Snezana Polovina, MD, PhD, Primarius, Esteemed lecturers from the Republic of Srpska also took part in the event. Lecturers from the University Hospital Clinical Centre Banja Luka were: Professor Snjezana Popovic-Pejicic, MD, PhD, a specialist in internal medicine – endocrinologist, Assistant Professor Gordana Bukara – Radujkovic, MD, PhD, Primarius, specialist in paediatrics-endocrinologist, Assistant Professor Aleksandra Grbic, MD, PhD, Primarius, specialist in internal medicine – endocrinologist, Valentina Soldat-Stankovic, MD, specialist in internal medicine – endocrinologist. On behalf of Public Health Institution “Health Centre Banja Luka”, the lecturer was Assistant Professor Kosana Stanetic, MD, PhD, Primarius – Department of Family Medicine. On behalf of the sub-specialist centre “Tallma Med”, the lecturer was Milena Brkic MD, MSc. Primarius Mladen Blagojevic, MD held a lecture on behalf of the Public Health Institution General Hospital Bijeljina. Symposium was intended for endocrinologists (specialist in internal medicine, paediatricians), cardiologists, nephrologists, neurologists, oculists, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, specialists in other fields of medicine dealing with diabetes-related complications and family medicine specialists.
At the opening ceremony, participants were addressed by: Professor Zvezdana Rajkovaca, MD, PhD, Assistant General Manager for Medical Affairs of the UHCC Banja Luka, Professor Zoran Vujkovic, MD, PhD, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka, Alen Seranic, MD from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska, coordinator of Project entitled “Diabetes Mellitus in the Republic of Srpska”, President of the Association of Diabetologists and Endocrinologists of the Republic of Srpska, Professor Snjezana Popovic-Pejicic, MD, PhD and President of the Managing Board of the Association Primarius Mladen Blagojevic, MD.
We owe our deep gratitude to the respected professors from the Republic of Serbia for the efforts that they made in order to organize this event. Long-term expert and scientific cooperation in the field of diabetology and endocrinology between the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia facilitated organization of this Symposium. Their support was reflected by the fact that there were a large number of participants who contributed to the quality of this expert and scientific event.
International character of the Symposium additionally enriches this event and we believe that the Symposium will strongly encourage further development of diabetology and endocrinology in the Republic of Serbia. It will also contribute to the improvement of our everyday activities and quality of life of our patients.
The expert and scientific programme of the congress covered the latest topics in the field of diabetology, obesity and metabolic syndrome. According to the evaluation of Council for Continuing Medical Education of the Medical Association of the Republic of Srpska, the Symposium obtained the score of 9 points for lecturers and 5 points for participants of the event.
Great interest was shown by all specialists dealing with diabetes and diabetes-related complications in the Republic of Srpska. Over 160 accredited participants took part in the event.
