Digitalni mamograf slikaOn June 23rd, 2015, in the premises of the Institute of Clinical Radiology, within implementation of the Phase III of the Hospital Modernization Project in B&H, installation of digital mammography system “GE Senographe Essential” was completed.

It is a new, highly sophisticated device for breast diagnostics which provides better analysis of mammographic images, their archiving and comparison with previous images. Besides this, the device provides possibility of reduction or optimization of radiation dose.

Due to complexity of operating the new mammography system and necessity of team approach, in the period from July 7th to July 9th, 2015, application specialist at GE, Julia Demetriu, held an educational course that was attended by staff employed at the Institute of Clinical Radiology – radiologists, radiology technicians, medical physicist and electronics engineer. Content of a three-day educational course was related to imaging techniques, post-processing and reading of diagnostic images and periodic controls of quality of the device and images.

After completion of the educational course, the device was officially commissioned.

After procurement of necessary accessories and after performing the appropriate software upgrade, it will be possible to perform stereotactic breast biopsy and digital breast tomosynthesis – extremely important additional methods for breast diagnostics. Superior image quality and introducing the above-mentioned techniques will provide establishing of the opportunistic breast cancer screening program for target population of female patients in accordance with EU quality standards.
