slika 1On September 10th, 2015, President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and a representative of Association of Parents of Children Suffering from Malignant Diseases „Iskra“ Rada Vjestica laid a cornerstone for Parents’ House for children suffering from malignant diseases. The cornerstone was laid near the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska on Paprikovac location in Banjaluka. Through the humanitarian action that was carried out owing to support of the President of the Republic of Srpska, BAM 850.000 was provided for construction of the Parents’ House. The house of 500 square metres will have seven suites for parents and all necessary house capacities. Also, parents will be provided with necessary medical and psychological assistance during the process of treatment of their children. The house should be a part of integrated healthcare system and accordingly the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska will be provided with new capacities and new dimension.

While giving statements to the media, President Dodik emphasized that society had to maintain its human responsibility towards parents in difficult situation. He pointed out that construction of “Parents’ House“ was necessary for all parents from other cities that brought their children to Banjaluka to undergo treatment.

President of the Association of Parents of Children Suffering from Malignant Diseases „Iskra“ Banjaluka Rada Vjestica expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped in construction of this facility. She emphasized that parents and children that underwent treatment knew the significance of this house best.

Head of Department of Haemato-oncology Professor Jelica Predojevic-Samardzic MD, PhD said that in this way UCC RS would join group of the modern European hospitals which were supported by the civil sector for a long time. According to her words, „Parents’ house“ will be important psychological and economic support to the children, since currently 35 to 40 children are treated in our institution.

General Manager of the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska Mirko Stanetic said that the Parents’ House would ensure broadening of capacities of this health care institution. According to his words, UCC RS has the best Department of Haemato-oncology that provides services in cooperation with laboratory and the Radiotherapy Centre. It is also necessary to respond to all challenges in surgical treatment of these patients.

These humanitarian actions represent life, humanity and all good aspects in society.
