From September 14th to September 21st, Tuberculosis Prevention Week is marked worldwide with the aim of raising people’s awareness about this infectious disease which still represents big health problem.
Traditionally, the Red Cross Banjaluka carries out the activities related to marking the Tuberculosis Prevention Week in cooperation with healthcare workers. On that occasion representatives of this organization visited the Clinic of Pulmonary Diseases of the UCC RS.
Zeljkica Ilic, Secretary of the Red Cross Banjaluka said: “Besides Red Cross Week, Tuberculosis Prevention Week is one of the most significant activities of our organization. On that occasion we visited the Clinic of Pulmonary Diseases and patients suffering from tuberculosis treated here. We brought fruit and hygiene supplies for the patients hospitalized in the Clinic.”
According to the words of the Head, Professor Marinko Vucic MD, PhD, the Clinic of Pulmonary Diseases is the head institution, the most competent and the most equipped clinic among clinics of pulmonary diseases in the Republic of Srpska. All bronchological examinations are performed here. On an annual basis, approximately 200 patients suffering from tuberculosis are successfully treated in the Clinic of Pulmonary Diseases of the UCC RS.
According to the data collected by the Public Health Institute during the last year, in the Republic of Srpska, there were 382 registered TB cases (the TB incidence rate is 27.3 per 100.000 persons). It is a decrease in the number of registered cases in comparison to 2013 during which there were 440 TB registered cases in this health care institution.
