In the period from October 28th to October 30th, 2015, in hotel “Kardial” in Teslic, symposium with international participation – Peritoneal Dialysis Academy organized by Peritoneal Dialysis Section of the Association of Nephrologists of the Republic of Srpska was held. The expert gathering was organized under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska, the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka, the Medical Chamber of the Republic of Srpska, the Medical Society of the Republic of Srpska and the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska.

Sixteen lectures on peritoneal dialysis were held: historical overview, epidemiology, histology and physiology of peritoneum, basic and advanced techniques, complications and their management. In a friendly work atmosphere, fifty registered participants exchanged experiences with colleagues and scientists from the country and the region.

Topics of special significance were related to problems and good solutions concerning this treatment method. The conclusion of the event is that a number of patients in the entire country (2,7%) is significantly lower than the average number in Europe and worldwide (11% of the total number of patients treated by some of the renal function replacement methods) and that there are possibilities for higher utilization of this treatment method. Participants gave the symposium high marks. They also expressed their wishes that it would become a traditional way of gathering of experts in this field.  The Academy was opened by General Manager of the UCC RS Professor Mirko Stanetic MD, PhD.
