Assistant Professor Igor Antoncic, MD, PhD, Head of the Neurology Clinic of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, specialist in neurology and subspecialist in intensive care medicine, together with his colleagues Sinisa Dunatov, Head of the ICU and Head Nurse of the ICU Marica Matejcic visited the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of the UCC RS.

The aim of a friendly visit is establishing the cooperation between the Neurology Clinic of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka and the UCC RS in relation to treatment of patients with neurological problems in the ICUs. Our guests used the visit to obtain information on management of critically ill neurological patients in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of the UCC RS and to spend one working day with our medical staff.

During the visit, Assistant Professor Igor Antoncic MD, PhD held a lecture intended for all interested specialists and residents. The lecture entitled “Hypothermia in Neurological Patients in ICUs” was held in the Amphitheatre and it was not dedicated solely to this topic, but also to the overview of practice in neuro-intensive care in CHC Rijeka. This was a unique opportunity for physicians to hear experiences about treatment of this entity. According to the words of Assistant Professor Igor Antoncic, MD, PhD, this is a reciprocal visit, because staff members from Department of Intensive Care Medicine of the UCC RS visited the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka. Also, there is a possibility for establishing cooperation regarding the intensive care management of neurological patients. Assistant Professor Antoncic MD, PhD, emphasized readiness of the CHC Rijeka for the cooperation regarding education of our physicians undergoing subspecialty trainings in intensive care medicine. Some of the topics discussed were the role of nurse in intensive care units and the importance of the team work.

The Neurology Clinic of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka is a reference centre of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system in Croatia. Assistant Professor Antoncic, MD, PhD is a coordinator for subspecialist studies in intensive care medicine for the field of neurology.
