In the period from December 10th to December 12th, 20015, Thierry Pirotte, MD from Saint-Luc Hospital in Brussels visited the UCC RS for the second time.
During the visit, workshop on use of ultrasound in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care medicine was organized. Thierry Pirotte, MD is an official instructor of the European Society of Anaesthesiology for application of ultrasound in anaesthesia. On behalf of the Clinic of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, the host was Assistant Professor Darko Golic, MD, PhD.
During his visit, Thierry Pirotte, MD held lectures for specialists in intensive care medicine and paediatricians in the Amphitheatre of the Faculty of Medicine located in the Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Topics covered by lectures are ultrasound visualization of vascular elements, clinical application of ultrasound with a special emphasis on paediatric patients and ultrasound-guided peripheral and central nerve blocks. Practical activities were organized in the Paediatric Clinic and they were attended by specialists and residents in the above-mentioned fields.
Topics discussed during the workshop are also in the initial stage in the health centres worldwide. It means that the UCC RS as the biggest health care institution follows trends in diagnostics and treatment in this field of medicine. This educational training will significantly improve range of services intended for paediatric patients and we hope that it will become a long-lasting tradition.
